Skiing event Gerlos – March 2017

This year the sun and powder snow drew SmartRules to the Austrian Alps once again. Gerlos in beautiful Zillertal was this years’ destination. Members of the Dutch and German teams gathered to show the piste heroes that IT guys are not only in their element when positioned behind a desk.

Our ragtag team consisted of experienced skiers and snowboarders as well as colleagues who visited the Alps for the very first time and had their first taste of winter sports. Our lodgings where in the traditionally styled hotel Gerloserhof. It also served a hearty breakfast which turned out to be worth its weight in gold, as it sustained us throughout the day while we worked up a sweat in the snow.

Speeding down the pists was not the only thing SmartRules employees did in and around Gerlos in those three days. While some actually did spend every free minute they had on the slopes, others decided to take their first careful steps with the help of the local skiing school. Another group couldn’t be sold on skiing or snowboarding and so they decided to visit the nearby city of Innsbruck to enjoy Austrian architecture and cuisine. We absolutely recommend the 7km long tobogganing track in a town near Gerlos. It offers normal tobogganing and tobogganing by night with the whole track being illuminated by torches!

Every evening the whole team met in one of Gerlos’ restaurants to finish the day in a relaxed atmosphere. And for those who weren’t ready to call it a day yet there was always a very lively Après Ski scene to experience.

With Gerlos, one of the biggest and most famous skiing areas in Austria, Austria can boast a first class winter sports and vacation destination. Whether sports, culture, cuisine or the magnificent countryside, every one of us found something to enjoy and we are all excited for next year!
