AppianWorld 2017 San Francisco – March 2017

2017 AppianWorld (AW) took place in San Francisco, California. The City By The Bay – also being the birthplace of Appian founder and CEO Matt Calkins – was a wonderful host to AW and the team from SmartRules.

The event took place on April 3-5 in the Hyatt Regency. AW itself is a mix between networking opportunities and presentations for customers and partners. The big topics this year where cognitive computing, artificial intelligence and fraud detection with the help of Appian.

New technical innovations where the Decision Designer and the Integration Designer objects coming with Appian 17.2. Those two components will make the life of Appian practitioners a lot easier in the future. Over the coming year the interface language SAIL will be completely revamped. Under the codename “Modern UI” Appian interfaces will get a modern coat of paint and be a lot more flexible and versatile in their design.

Besides the more formalized part, AppianWorld presents us with a networking opportunity with potential clients and especially an opportunity to get in touch with the personnel of Appian. Any exchange of thought about the philosophy behind the Appian product and the nature of our work itself is always very fruitful for us. On Monday evening Paul Maguire (Appian VP of Europe) organised a dinner for the European employees and partners of Appian. Followed by this was the big party on Tuesday evening in an absolutely unique location: The “Exploratorium” of San Francisco. Situated in an old pier hall, converted into part workshop, part botanical experiments, optical illusions, other science experiments and loads of nifty mechanical appliances, it invited the partygoers to combine partying with eating, playing and of course exploring.

The SmartRules team would like to thank the organisers for a brilliant AppianWorld 2017 and the chance to experience beautiful San Francisco. We are already looking forward to 2018!
